TAPING AND STRAPPING

Taping and strapping is a common component that practitioners use within injury rehabilitation in order to assist with the other modalities and give the patient some physical feedback and support during their recovery.

Practitioners use taping and strapping for:

  • Pain relief by offloading injured tissues allowing them to heal
  • Improve joint stability following a ligament/tendon injury
  • Prevent injury during rehabilitation sessions
  • Reduce injury reoccurence if a patient has multiple injuries beforehand
  • Improve muscle function/biomechanics by re-educating movement patterns with support
  • Restore normal movement when muscle cannot work adequately
  • Compression when an injury has accumulated significant swelling

There are multiple types of tape and strapping that could be used in clinic:

  • Zinc Oxide - A stiff and restrictive tape used mainy for joint stability, injury reduction and biomechanics correction
  • Kinesio Tape - A stretchy and less restrictive tape used for swelling and bruising but also can be used for movement education. This is mainly used for muscle tears, muscle contusions and tendinopathies.

If you are allergic to any certain tapes, please let your practitioner know when booking your taping appointment.
